Black Kitchens?

Black kitchens make a real impression.

Black is sophisticated and sexy when used appropriately in kitchens.  Because cabinets dominate the visible kitchen surfaces, take care to avoid having black dominate the entire setting.  In this kitchen it's used as a contrasting element and not the primary color.  It grounds the room and adds a visual punch.

Black adds a contemporary touch to the decor.  These black and white dishes pop against the black cabinetry.

The colors in Gwyneth Paltrow's kitchen convey elegance and sophistication.  Dark charcoal does a good job as a stand in for black.

Black works in a variety of styles.  Here it is part of a contemporary high tech look.  Black provides a contrast to the gray counter, cabinets and stools to give the kitchen a wonderful subdued setting.  The careful placement of white lights lightens the area.

The color black can be sexy and sophisticated while adding a touch of mystery.

Black can be conflicting in it's connotations, being both serious and conventional, as seen here with white china juxtaposed against black cabinetry.

This kitchen strikes a good balance.  Black cabinets are combined with white walls and countertops.  That balance is continued by the use of stainless steel appliances and a pale wood floor.
