Kelly Wearstler

Her book is titled "Modern Glamour: The Art of Unexpected Style".  That about sums up her style!  Her designs have been described as "bold, complex, decadent, dizzying, rich, colorful...and not for the faint of heart".  In my opinion, they are dramatic, vibrant and often times over-the-top and theatrical.  Maybe that's why I wasn't surprised when I heard that she got her start as a Hollywood set designer.  Although you may not love her style, there's no doubt that studying her work will encourage you to take greater risks with your own designs.

Vibrantly colored, this space is unique and bold.  Often preferring reflective and metallic surfaces, Kelly also chooses bold shapes and forms.

Chic furniture, quirky details and an eye-catching focal point are all components to the success of her designs.  Who said "Go Big or Go Home"?... I think it was a sports star.  It may as well have been Kelly Wearstler.  She always works with large scaled furniture and accessories, but her focal points are even bigger and more dramatic.  Photo via Metropolitan Home.

This bedroom seems almost too neutral and serene to have been designed by Kelly Wearstler.  However, some of her signature elements still exist such as the bold rug, reflective surfaces and mixture of styles.

This unpretentious and friendly living room includes a beguiling mix of styles.  Kelly uses her usual flair and keen eye to create a unique style that breaks the mold.  The classic elements are updated and made fresh and modern.

This glamorous, smart and sexy bedroom has a bit of Hollywood Regency in it, among other aesthetic styles.  Juxtaposed together the elements work to create a visual treat.

  Kelly's art of combining disparate styles and colors is inspirational.

I love that she chose to leave the walls and floor white.  It proves that drama can still be created in a simple serene framework. 

Whether you prefer to love her or leave her, it will be interesting to see the longevity of her style.  I already feel as though her Imperial Trellis pattern (seen here on the walls and chair) has been overused and the popularity of it has dimmed.  Her designs are definitely eye candy and it will be interesting to see what she comes up with next.  She truly is an inspiration to many.
