The Kitchen Island.

One of the most popular choices in kitchen design is to include an island.  This feature is perfect if you plan to entertain as it can face a dining or living area, allowing the cook to socialize while preparing. An island sink provides the optimal arrangement in terms of the kitchen’s working triangle. Cooktops with a canopy over the island can form a stunning focal point to the kitchen.

In this jaw-dropping gorgeous white kitchen, the island takes center stage.  The symmetrical arrangement features an island sink directly opposite the cooktop.  It's light, open and airy design is stunning.

This kitchen island, made from a gray farmhouse table, can be easily moved around the kitchen as needed.  The butcher block top adds warmth and function.  With a lantern dangling above, the island adds rustic charm and ambience.  It's style and color make it a standout in this white kitchen.  The open shelving, light wood floor and farmhouse sink heighten the casual friendly vibe.

Beautiful white molding and detailing are carried throughout the kitchen.  The island is no exception.  A pair of unique brass light fixtures hover above while light streams through a bank of windows.

Topped with a beveled granite slab that cohesively blends with the kitchen countertops, the island does double duty as both a table and storage cabinet.  The unique wood finish allows it to stand out amongst an abundance of white painted cabinets.

In this neutral modern kitchen designed by A. Citterio, the suspended cabinets appear weightless. The sleek linear island blends into it's surroundings. The oak and aluminum table and chairs make a striking counterpoint.

Oozing with charm and style, this kitchen is outfitted with two smaller islands.  It makes the room much less utilitarian than if one larger island would have been used.  Along with the stone floors and rustic wood beams, the island tables and warmth and texture.

A pair of mismatched islands, each with it's own pendant light, coexist elegantly in this white kitchen.  With white dishware stashed casually below, they provide not only additional storage but counter space as well.

A walnut topped island adds casual warmth and friendliness to this kitchen.

This walnut island can be transported throughout the kitchen.  Because the top stands above counter height, it can be pushed right up against the counter.

Taking the place of a kitchen island is the kitchen table.  Providing an additional surface within arms reach, the table is multifunctional.
