When it comes to catching and reflecting light in your home, nothing does it better than a mirror. Mirrors add depth and often take the place of a window. They can visually expand a space and create an eye-catching focal point.
This stunning dining room, designed by none other than Vicente Wolf, takes advantage of an enormous singular gold framed mirror leaning against the wall. Vicente Wolf is infamous for using mirrors, especially leaning mirrors. When asked why he so frequently uses leaning mirrors, his response was "... I guess mirrors are a signature of mine, I've been doing them for thirty years!.... This way it's like an entrance into another room — you feel like you could enter another space. That's why they have to be very large, and they have to be leaning on the floor. If I hung this mirror on the wall, it would be just another solid piece of furniture — reflective, yes, but it wouldn't extend the space so much". Photo via Elle Decor.
In rooms lacking natural light, mirrors create the most dramatic impact. In this predominantly white Swedish living room, the mirror catches every beam of light that comes it's way and retracts it throughout the space. It is ornately framed and placed, quintessentially, above the fireplace.
Creating an intriguing effect, a Venetian mirror is layered on top of a wall-to-wall mirror. The composition adds depth and an illusion of spaciousness to this small bathroom.
This Venetian mirror, flanked by two oversized windows and directly above a stunning pedestal bathtub, creates an elegant focal point. I love the grand crystal chandelier.
An assortment of rusticly framed round mirrors create a beautiful reflective collage in this richly colored dining room. Without the large window and light reflecting mirrors, the room's mood would become somber.
This light and airy living room also benefits from a collage of deeply concave geometric mirrors.
A collection of oval mirrors feels at home in this stark white contemporary space.
This space is elegantly reflected in a wall of antiqued mirrors which add age, authenticity and character. Not to mention.. that bureau is to die for!
Framed simply in crisp white, this mirror expands the modern dining space. I love that all of the lines were kept clean and uncluttered and the mirror was hung adjacent to the wall and ceiling.
